Training and Dialogue

The department Training and Dialog aims at educational goals within the community and through outreach. A strengthening of the Jewish identity is to be brought about through youth training and by promoting Jewish youth and adult education. Specifically the SIG offers camps and social events during summer and winter holidays. These are designed in particular with kids and teens in mind that have not yet become part of a Jewish youth organization in one of the centers. There the kids and teenagers will be given the opportunity to experience the Jewish tradition in informal surroundings, and to forge new friendships.

In the sector of Jewish education the SIG assumes the following facilitating and coordinating functions. The SIG works towards a more professional approach to the formal teaching of religion by obtaining and developing modern and attractive teaching materials. Part of this is the setting up of continuous education opportunities for the instructors. In leadership workshops youth leaders, respectively young adults, will learn how to present their Judaism in a well differentiated manner. Additionally they will learn how to reflect and handle their sometimes involuntary role as representatives of the State of Israel.

An information network about educational events dealing with Jewish topics – in particular Judaism, Israel, anti-Semitism and racism – is designed to document the diversity of what's offered and to allow all those interested easy access to these continuous educational opportunities.

The SIG considers educational work and the fight against anti-Semitism and intolerance another important task. It supports projects that are active in that direction and by using a dialog project for young people it intends to promote the encounter with Judaism at the schools.
