The World Jewish Congress (WJC) is the political representation of all Jews living outside of the State of Israel. Founded in 1936 in Geneva under the leadership of Nahum Goldman by the representatives of 32 nations, the WJC fought for the right of Jewish refugees to be granted asylum in several countries. In 1942 it was its secretary general, Gerhard Riegner, who revealed the truth about the "final solution". After the war a large number of political interventions of the WJC came to the aide of endangered Jews anywhere in the world, be it for those who live in the Arabic countries, for those living in Russia, or those anywhere else. These efforts by the Jewish World Congress, who is considered the actual leadership of the Diaspora Jewry, made it possible for many of these people to emigrate. Furthermore, it was the negotiations of the WJC with the German Government, which initiated the principle of restitution.
